IP Office Release 8.0 is supported on the IP500 and IP500 V2 control units only.
IP Office Editions & Licensing
IP Office Basic Edition Mu-Law and A-Law SD cards in Release 7.0 enable two modes of operation - Quick Mode and Standard Mode. For IP Office Release 8.0, these have been re-branded to IP Office Basic Edition (PARTNER Mode and Norstar Mode) and IP Office Basic Edition respectively.
When the IP500 V2 is first started, it boots-up in Basic Edition, which offers a simplified management and out of the box operations, two intercom buttons, basic system functionality, voice mailboxes on all telephones, system programming support using the Telephone User Interface (TUI), etc. Basic Edition makes starting and using the system quick and easy.
Starting with Release 8.0, users who need full IP Office functionality need to apply the new Essential edition license before using manager to change from Basic Edition to Essential Edition. Once the system reboots, it restarts in Essential Edition which is the way it looked and felt in Release 7.0.

For customers that have or need a wireless solution, Release 8.0 has a number of updates for the IP Office DECT R4. The new IP DECT Gateway allows connecting digital base stations to the DECT R4 solution with the intent to leverage existing 4-wire cabling.
In addition, Avaya is introducing new versions of the IP Base Stations (IPBS) and the Avaya In-building Wireless Server (AIWS).
Enhanced Offer for Small Systems with 20 Users or Less - Basic Edition
The three versions of IP Office that are specifically targeted at this segment, are now branded as follows:
- IP Office Basic Edition Partner Mode.
- IP Office Basic Edition Norstar Mode

IP Office R8.0 responds to these market trends, with several new SIP trunk capabilities, designed to simplify and address a wider set of implementation scenarios including:

Coaching/Silent Intrusion/Whisper page
This feature is available in Essential, Edition and enables users on a call to 'intrude' and listen depending on the configuration of the end users, i.e. whether Coaching Intrusion or Whisper Page is used. Intrusion can be done for internal calls or with external calls
Basic Edition and Essential Edition Voicemail Enhancements
In R8.0, the IP Office Basic Edition and Essential Edition voicemail will support the following new capabilities:
- Intuity Audix Commands are supported in addition to the currently supported TUI commands. In the Intuity Audix mode, the system shall utilize the same Intuity Audix commands that are currently used on Voicemail Pro, PARTNER Voice Messaging and PARTNER Messaging. The main reason for introducing the Intuity mode is to provide consistency in the command options across all our messaging solutions.
- Call Screening on Embedded Voicemail
A user will have the capability to listen to incoming calls. When an incoming call arrives at your phone and is then directed to and answered by the voice mail system, you automatically hear the caller on your phone speaker, the caller cannot hear you. You can decide whether to answer the call or drop from the call and let the voice mail system continue to handle the call.
- Enter System Administration from ext 10 or ext 11 while on a call
The system supports entry into system administration or programming from the first two extensions on the system (which are the system phones) while on a call. In addition, any eligible extension continues to have the ability to enter individual programming while on a call.
Preferred Edition Voicemail Enhancements
In Release 8.0, the Voicemail Pro will support the following new capabilities:
- Multi-time zone support
Multi Time Zone support in Preferred Edition gives the customers with a multi-site environment (IP Office SCN network) in different time zones the ability to get the right time stamps and announcements for the local time zone of the IP Office switch they are connected to.
- Feature parity for Preferred Edition between Windows and Linux
IP Office R8.0 adds more parity between Preferred Edition on Windows and Linux with respect to the following features:

The application relies on permanent data connection with the communications server and is designed to provide an "always-on" experience delivering asynchronous events of interest to the user as they arrive from the communications server.

Release License / Upgrade License
When upgrading to Release 8.0 from a previous release, the IP Office 8.0 Release License must be present. It comes in two flavors:
- Upgrade to Release 8.0 for systems with 32 extensions or less
- Upgrade to Release 8.0 for all systems with more than 32 extensions
For new installations it is not required to purchase one of these licenses.
90-Day Entitlement Period
Beginning with IP Office Release 6.0 and continuing with IP Office Release 8.0 and the IPO500 V2 hardware, the system may be upgraded to the latest release of IP Office software (in this case Release 8.0) during the entitlement period; within 90 days after the system was first powered up by the customer. The customer has an entitlement period of 90 days from their initial use of the system to install the version of software they wish to run. Should another release of IP Office become available within 90 days of a system first being used, the customer may move to that release without purchasing an upgrade license. Example: if a customer first powered up the IP Office with Release 7.0, they are entitled to Release 8.0 within the 90 day period without charge for a Release 8.0 upgrade license. After the 90 day entitlement period, upgrade license charges will apply.

PARTNER Mode provides enhanced features such as Visual Voice, Remote Call Forwarding, 64-party Conferencing, SIP Trunking, Full PRI/T1 and more.
PARTNER Mode provides the same 2-digit extension numbering plan as PARTNER ACS (default), and now supports a 3-digit flexible numbering plan (extensions 100 - 599).
PARTNER Mode supports all current and "Euro" versions of PARTNER ACS telephones, the 1400 Series digital telephones, the current 3920 and 3910 wireless products, as well as most analog devices (fax, wireless headsets, analog telephones). The original MLS Series telephones and older wireless telephones are not supported.
